One of the real reasons we went to Georgia was to visit Helen. It is a real honest to goodness Alpine village right in the middle of Appalachian mountains!!!!!!
It looked just like how you would imagine Germany to look. It is one of those places you stumble across and wonder how on earth you never knew it was there and it has been there all along. It was settled my real Germans many moons ago and many still run the shops and stores along the main alpine way. We walked up and down the street. We had diner at a little outside diner that overlooked the Chatahoochee river. Had homemade ice cream. Ezra got superman ice cream which on this day of recollection of my birthday caused many a memory to float back to me of my grandfather taking us for ice cream in Flat Rock as kids. All in all it was a wonderful day! I could not have asked for anything better.
And we got thirsty and stopped to get some Kifer which doesn't so much satisfy your thirst as it does make your belly feel like it has a brick in it and your tounge happy! Ezra was quite proud of his Kifer moustache and his chug-a-luggin.You could take a horse drawn carrige ride which we didn't do but enjoyed spending some time with the horses!
And of course we had a new member of the family with us. To be noted this may the the only time ever those little shoes were on her feet!
